Ensuring accountability in national security spending and practices is essential to achieving a fiscally responsible approach to national security. Spending practices like the misuse of emergency spending to cover routine costs and requirements for military service leaders to submit wish lists of unbudgeted items fuel unnecessary spending and threaten our ability to meet our national security funding needs in the years to come. Similarly, the Pentagon’s ongoing failure to pass an audit means the military does not have a complete picture of its current resources and thus its current needs. Taxpayers for Common Sense is working to address harmful national security spending practices and strengthen transparency and accountability measures throughout the national security budgeting process.
