The federal government is extensively involved in funding the nation’s roads, airports, rails, ports, and waterways.

Uncle Sam provides funds for flood and storm reduction projects, and federal flood insurance is used to protect homes. Too often, transportation projects are funded based on political muscle rather than project merit.

Taxpayers for Common Sense opposes projects where the national benefit doesn’t outweigh the cost and advocates for a fix-it-first approach. We demand a smarter disaster response from government and getting the financial incentives right like charging risk-based rates for flood insurance. We work to shift more of the financial costs and risks off federal taxpayers and onto the actual project beneficiaries themselves.
