Taxpayers for Common Sense was saddened to learn of the passing of our dear friend, taxpayer advocate, Mrs. Ellen Proxmire. Mrs. Proxmire was a pioneer of the event planning industry and wife of the late Senator William Proxmire, who created the Golden Fleece Award to highlight examples of wasteful government spending. To commemorate the 25th anniversary of the famous waste-busting award, Senator Proxmire asked Taxpayers for Common Sense (TCS) to revive the Golden Fleece Award.

The TCS staff extends our condolences to the family and friends of Mrs. Proxmire. While her presence in Washington politics and society will be greatly missed, the tireless work of Mr. and Mrs. Proxmire will live on.
