Today, Taxpayers for Common Sense (TCS) sent a letter to the House Budget Committee in response to a request about ways to improve fiscal accountability, transparency, and program integrity across the federal budget. TCS’s letter addresses reforms that would ensure taxpayer dollars are spent more efficiently and effectively, including those addressing the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Commodity Credit Corporation, in addition to reducing waste, fraud, and abuse within the federal crop insurance program. In addition, the letter states transparency can be improved across the federal budget so the public can understand where taxpayer dollars are going, ranging from defense appropriations bills to new spending authorized in the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) and COVID-19-related legislation. Finally, the letter also addresses broad reforms that would improve the federal budget process in addition to program integrity within programs spanning the federal budget.
