On Thursday, Taxpayers for Common Sense and nine other groups sent a letter to Rep. Kevin Brady (R-TX), Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, in support of his legislation to reform the process for considering Miscellaneous Tariff Bills (MTBs). By altering the rules so that all requests for reductions in tariffs are evaluated by the International Trade Commission (ITC), the bill would eliminate the possibility that individual Members of Congress could make earmark-esque additions to a MTB that would provide tariff relief to a narrow range of companies in their home district or state.
