Regions Financial Corporation is a financial holding company that operates throughout the South, Midwest and Texas, with approximately 1,900 banking offices in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia. The company is headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama. Its banking operations are through Regions Bank, a state-chartered commercial bank. As of 2008, regions held more than $144 billion in assets, placing it in the top ten of banks in the United States. Regions was an early recipient of capital from the Treasury’s Capital Purchase Program, and the $3.5 billion it received is one of the largest cash infusions distributed under the program.
