Midwest BankMidwest Banc Holdings, Inc. is a bank holding company operating in the greater Chicago metropolitan area.   In early November, Midwest announced that it would participate in the Treasury Department’s Capital Purchase Program, and that it would sell $85.5 million of preferred stock to the Treasury.

Midwest was one of a handful of U.S. banks to hold a relatively large share of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac equity, and thus was hurt, to an extent, by the government takeover of the two companies.
