Autumn Hanna

Autumn joined Taxpayers for Common Sense in 2000 and is vice president overseeing programs and serving as spokesperson and legislative strategist. During her tenure at TCS, Autumn has led legislative and outreach efforts to reform federal energy and natural resource policy. She has over two decades of policy expertise in areas including energy tax policy and subsidies, carbon pricing, hardrock mining, oil and gas leasing, carbon capture and storage, western water, and integrated water projects. She is the lead author of many TCS reports, including Green Scissors: Cutting Wasteful and Environmentally Harmful Spending, Smart Water Strategies, Subsidy Gusher, and Subsidizing Oil Shale. Her portfolio also includes energy financing mechanisms, including federally-backed loan guarantees; royalty collection for public lands; and support for unconventional fossil fuels. She has been published in major news outlets including the Washington Post, New York Times, and Wall Street Journal and has testified before both the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate.
Before joining TCS, Autumn worked on energy and natural resource issues at Penn State University. She has studied at the National University in Heredia, Costa Rica and graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a B.A. from Penn State University Schreyer Honors College.
