On November 1, 2021, TCS submitted public comments to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) on its newly proposed Climate-Smart Agriculture and Forestry Partnership Program. USDA proposes to use taxpayer funds within USDA’s Commodity Credit Corporation (CCC) to subsidize carbon markets and other related climate efforts, without Congressional approval. Instead, federal funding should be prioritized toward existing agriculture conservation programs that deliver the most benefits – for the climate, producers, and taxpayers alike.
