On Monday, TCS joined with a diverse array of nine other government waste watchdogs in sending a letter to Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) to voice our firm support for efforts to eliminate the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA’s) Catfish Inspection Program. TCS has objected to the costly program, which duplicates existing Food and Drug Administration (FDA) catfish inspections, for years – in coalitions and independently – and it hasn’t gotten better with age. The Government Accountability Office (GAO) has targeted the program for needing reform a record 10 times. As the USDA begins to operate the program at a cost of about $14 million per year, it's just as important to put a stop to it as ever.
