First Midwest Bank began in Joliet, Illinois and continues to serve the southern Chicago suburbs and the Quad Cities area. Their participation in the Treasury Department’s Capital Purchase Program came soon after the bank announced weak 3rd quarter financials in late October. As with many local banks, First Midwest reported problems due to the weakening economy and struggling housing markets. According to President and CEO Michael L. Scudder, “Performance for the quarter, while solid, reflected the impact of a fading economic environment, significantly weakened housing sector, and erratic financial markets.”
