On Tuesday, TCS joined with a diverse array of 10 other government waste watchdogs in sending a letter to Shaun Donovan, Director of the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB), to voice our continued opposition to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA’s) Catfish Inspection Program. TCS has objected to the costly program, which duplicates existing Food and Drug Administration (FDA) catfish inspections, for years – in coalitions and independently – and it hasn’t gotten better with age. USDA has published its rule and begun moving forward with the program, which makes ending it before it costs taxpayers about $14 million per year all the more urgent. See the full text of the coalition letter below, or download it here.
