Dear Members of Congress:
The undersigned organizations fully support amendment #70 to H.R. 4800, the fiscal year 2015 agriculture appropriations bill, offered by Congressmen Goodlatte, Welch, and Costa. The amendment reaffirms Congress’ intent, most recently included in the 2014 Farm Bill, to prevent USDA from using federal funds to install ethanol blender pumps. A similar amendment received bipartisan support in 2011, when it passed with 283 votes.
Our organizations are all very concerned about the suite of federal supports for corn ethanol for different reasons. In particular, some are concerned about the impact of higher ethanol blends on engines and fuel prices, some about the competition between food and feed with fuel, some about the increased emissions and decreasing air and water quality associated with corn ethanol, and some for a combination of these and many other reasons. We are united, however, in our support for this amendment.
Please support amendment #70 to H.R. 4800.
Sincerely,
